LESDE Department History

Labour Employment & Industrial Training Department was established under the Government of Mizoram in the year 1981. The name was changed to Labour Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department (LESDE) 14^th June, 2017. The Department is constituted with the Director/Labour Commissioner as the Head of the Department. The Director functions as the Labour Commissioner, the Chief Conciliation Officer, Registrar of Trade Unions, Director of Employment and Industrial Training, State Apprenticeship Advisor etc. He is assisted by the Joint Director and the Joint Labour Commissioner.

Recently, The Mizoram State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mission (MZSSED) was established, under which the Director, LESDE Department acts as the Mission Director and the Joint Director, LESDE acts as the Additional Mission Director. Further, the Government of Mizoram had allocated the subject of “Entrepreneurship” (Previously allocated to Planning Department) to the Department via No. A46012/1/2019-GAD dated the 28^th January, 2022. So, the name was changed into Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (LESDE) Department.
